Water can soak through drywall quickly after a pipe leak, roof leak, appliance failure, or flooding. Damaged drywall may swell, soften, stain, or develop other problems if moisture remains trapped inside the wall.
What the Job Involves
The affected drywall and surrounding wall cavity are inspected for moisture. Salvageable areas may be dried, while swollen, crumbling, or heavily saturated drywall may need to be removed and replaced.
Signs You Need It
- Brown or yellow water stains
- Swollen or soft drywall
- Peeling paint or bubbling surfaces
- Musty odors
- Damp wall areas
- Visible water damage after a leak
How the Work Goes
The water source is addressed first. Moisture readings are taken to determine how far water has traveled. Damaged drywall is selectively removed when necessary, allowing the wall cavity to dry with air movers and dehumidifiers. Once dry, new drywall can be installed and finished.
What Affects the Cost
Cost depends on the size of the damaged area, moisture depth, wall accessibility, drywall thickness, insulation condition, and amount of finishing required. Extensive damage behind the drywall can increase the scope of work.
